They had Potions that afternoon,
which was an unqualified disaster.
Try as Harry might, he couldn't get
his Confusing Concoction to thicken,
and Snape, standing watch with an air
of vindictive pleasure,
scribbled something that looked
suspiciously like a zero onto his notes
before moving away.

XiaoGui's pathetic attempts in writing fanfiction...

Small print: I am aware of the problems between fanfiction and canon. However, I enjoy reading (and also writing) fanfiction, because it provides the opportunity to explore certain characters *cough*..Snape..*cough* deeper, and it's always nice to see the variety of interpretations of Snape and the books by all the fans from all over the world. I am no "shipper", prefer no-romance-fics and especially stories that go deeper into the nature of the characters. The fics I read and write are exclusively stories about Snape (surprise, surprise!), and at that mostly the ones of "darker nature". I enjoy melancholic and/or pensive fics, which nevertheless stay close to the canon appearance of the characters. Rarely do I read Slash, but there are some pearls in that category as well. I also happen to have a special soft spot for hurt/comfort-fics, especially because I believe that a character can be explored more easily when he is in a vulnerable position. And anyway, it successfully aims at all our motherly instincts to care for the ones we love, doesn't it? ;-)

Killer in me (work in progress)

This is my only post-HP6 fic so far. It started as a one-shot, but I will expand it to a longer fic eventually. It's Snape-centric (as all my stories are) with focus on what might have happened after the "Flight of the Prince" in book 6.

Tonic and Gin | Tonic und Gin

A pensive encounter between our dear Potions Master and an offspring of the Weasley family in a dubious bar sometime in the future. No, it's not Slash - it's just some musings over an intriguing beverage, and it's based on a line from the song "Piano Man" by Billy Joel. I admit, this is my personal favourite of all the fics I've written so far, but unfortunately obsolete as of the final book. There is an illustration for this fic in the "Harry Potter"-section.

Behind the Greenhouses | Hinter den Gewächshäusern

One-shot and gap-filler, set at the end of book 4. An encounter between the Head of Slytherin and the Head of Hufflepuff in the light of the Dark Lord's return. This is a quiet and somewhat pensive vignette about war and politics, and the human beings caught therein. And it features a very underrated character in fanfiction, Madam Sprout.

Old Wounds | Alte Wunden

Another one-shot and gap-filler to book 5. An interpretation on what could have happened after Harry had been thrown out of Snape's office in the chapter "Snape's Worst Memory". Minerva versus Severus on the shards of life in a dark office. Kind of obsolete after book 7.

The final Atonement | Die letzte Sühne

My longer Drama, and my writing-struggle over the period of almost a year (and I'm now quite embarrassed over some of the extremely melodramatic chapters, but there you go...). Severus Snape, after getting seriously wounded in battle, on his way back to everyday life. But this time he doesn't have to struggle alone, as there are people willing to help him recover, first of all his friend Kingsley Shacklebolt. Hurt/Comfort, focussed on the characters and the stony path to overcome physical and emotional trauma, and a peek on an unusual friendship between two men. Obsolete after book 7. There are two illustrations for this fic in the "Harry Potter"-section.

Until it sleeps (English) | Until it sleeps (Deutsch)

One-shot, inspired by the song by Metallica. Tonks just intended to spend a quiet evening at Grimmauld Place with a newspaper and a cup of cocoa, when she suddenly gets an unexpected visitor. Snape and Tonks in a no-romance vignette, set at the time of book 5.

Read and enjoy, if you feel like.
And if you do, I'd be delighted to receive your comment :-)
